Food Supplements - what product testing is required?
Product testing is important to demonstrate the quality, safety and compliance of your products. Which tests need to be performed depends strongly on the product composition, type of ingredients and origin, packaging materials and the (implicit) product claims communicated to the consumer.
To give a general indication
Tests that are typically needed for food supplements are:
- Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) for each production batch where product samples are tested against the predefined product specifications. CoAs are required before a product can be released on the market
- Stability testing to substantiate the shelf life of the product
- Periodical product and individual raw material testing on critical contaminants and other risk factors as identified in the FSCR (e.g. PAHs, PCBs, mycotoxins, heavy metals, etc.) depending on the composition and processing methods
